GEORGE ADAMS (worked 1840-1883)
London 1878

Very rare Palm pattern sterling silver asparagus tongs made in London in 1878 by George Adams.

The bright-cut palm design stands out well against the plain silver background.

The end of the tongs is engraved with a contemporary family crest enclosed within a clansman belt which is inscribed with the family motto 'Frangas non flectes' of possible Irish origin.
The Palm pattern is a very rare mid-nineteenth century pattern which was first produced by Chawner & Co. and is in their pattern book.

The full set of hallmarks is clearly stamped on the inside of the handle.

Length: 10.1 inches (25.7cm)
