| Condition :-Very good condition indeed with
well-defined rat-tails and well-shaped bowls. The hallmarks are excellent with
the exception of the maker's mark and Britannia mark on one of the spoons which
are rubbed. There is a slight flake in the silver of one of the spoons at the
end of the stem at the back but it is negligible. |

| The "M * S" which is engraved on the
front of the stems of both spoons was probably engraved there because there was
no room on the back. Although these initials look contemporary, they may have
been engraved twenty years or so later when a child inherited them. Isaac
Davenport learnt his skills apprenticed to Thomas Allen, who was a prolific
spoonmaker. See Index No. 2143 for information regarding trefid spoons. |
