George I sterling silver marrow scoop of good
gauge. The stem incorporates a narrower scoop for removing the marrow from
smaller bones. The reverse of the main scoop is engraved with a family crest of
a winged dragon. The Assay and date hallmarks are excellent but the maker's
mark is difficult to read because it was lightly struck on the curve of the
stem.

These scoops were used to extract the marrow from
the bones. Although they are still excellent for this purpose to-day, they also
have other modern uses. For example, they make very good swizzle sticks when
mixing a quantity of drinks. They are also very useful for serving pickle from
tall pickle jars.
