| Condition :-Excellent condition, with well
shaped bowls and scarcely a blemish.. On the whole, all the hallmarks are good.
However, the maker's mark was lightly struck on two of the spoons and is no
longer visible and the date mark is no longer visible on one of the spoons.
Nevertheless, the general uniformity of the shape of the spoons, their long
drop on the back of the bowl and the same engraved crest throughout makes it
obvious that all the spoons are part of the same set |

| Hanoverian pattern cutlery (approximately 1730 -
1770s or 1780s), was always of a very heavy gauge compared with the much
lighter but very elegant Old English pattern which followed in its wake. The
ends of the stems of both spoons and forks all turn upwards. Also, because it
was hand forged, each piece of cutlery varies slightly in weight and dimension
from another so that each piece is an individual. It is this lack of total
uniformity that gives eighteenth century cutlery such charm. |
