Albany pattern items are always of particularly
heavy gauge and this soup ladle is no exception. Albany is an extremely
attractive nineteenth century pattern which was first used in the mid-1880s and
reached the peak of its popularity at the turn of the century. The pattern is
still made to-day. Albany is largely a variant of the eighteenth century Onslow
pattern. It is also known as Queen Anne and appeared in Francis Higgins's
catalogue as such. This soup ladle is from the same set as the pair of serving
spoons ( Index No.1974) and the pair of condiment spoons (Index No.1978). This
soup ladle is an extremely elegant item and could easily be used for serving
fruit salad, or punch, or even a casserole. It is in such good condition that
it would make an excellent gift.
