Click here for a larger image Pristine silver gilt Victorian cheroot case, engraved all over with flowers and scrolls, with two central handholds to open the case. The upper lid has a round , applied, cartouche in gold engraved with the monogram BMH or MBH. The inside of the upper lid has the stamp for Asprey, 166 Bond Street, along with the secondary hallmarks. The very sharp, full hallmarks are on the flange. This case has either been used with extreme care or has seen very little use.

Condition :-A few slight scratches on base which are scarcely visible because of the engraving. Otherwise, excellent condition with very crisp engraving and sharp hallmarks both on the flange and inner lid.

The maker, Thomas Johnson, was renowned for manufacturing high quality "dressing case and travelling bag fittings, card cases, snuff and fuzee boxes, vinaigrettes and first class spring smelling bottles, silver flasks, railway lanterns and every description of silver small work." His firm supplied retailers at the top end of the market, not only in London but also in Liverpool, Paris and Frankfurt.
