Set of 12 George II sterling silver buttons from a man's garment. The buttons are elegantly plain and unengraved. Eleven of the buttons are stamped on the reverse with the maker's mark and the assay mark of the Lion Passant. The twelfth button is stamped with the maker's mark only.

The fact that the buttons are not engraved leads one to assume that they did not belong to a servant in livery but more probably to a gentleman. Sandylands Drinkwater rose to Prime Warden of his Livery in 1761. He is mainly renowned for the wine labels which he made.
