Click here for a larger image Victorian, sterling silver, gilt oval dish, very decoratively engraved. The centre of the dish is engraved with a monogram "EM" entwined. On either side are two putti holding a ducal coronet with one hand above the monogram and a rope of roses in the other hand below. The gently sloping edge of the dish is engraved with garlands of dog-roses. The edge of the dish is finished by a plain rim. The full hallmarks are extremely clearly stamped on the back of the dish.

Condition :-Very good, with the gilding slightly worn in a pleasing, mellow, way. However, the engraving has remained very crisp and the full hallmarks stamped on the back are extremely sharp.

Size :- 6.5 inches (16.5cm) long x 4.4 inches (11.2cm) wide.
Weight :- 4.8ozt (148.3g)
It is the extremely high quality and charm of the engraving which makes this dish so delightful. Also, it is an extremely versatile item which would be equally at home in the dining room, in the sitting room, on a desk or on a dressing table.
