George Richmond Collis succeeded to the business
of Sir Edward Thomason on his retirement in 1835. The firm continued very much
in Thomason's style and claimed to be "manufacturers in the highest
classes of the arts". Their quality was always outstanding and their
diversity was enormous and encompassed the manufacture of many medals,
including the Dassier Dies, the Mudies Dies, commemorating the victories of the
Napoleonic Wars, as well as forty-eight dies for the medals of the Elgin
Marbles.
