George III unmarked silver counter box with 4 counters
George III sterling silver circular counter box containing four
counters with an amatory inscription. Unmarked. The lid of the box is decorated
with two delicate bright cut circles. The top edge of the lid and the bottom
edge of the base are delicately ribbed. The four counters are stamped around
the edge :- union Sacree amitie fidelite. (Sacred union friendship fidelity).
In the centre two doves in flight facing each other beak to beak above two
hearts afire.
Condition :-Good condition with slight wear
to the engraving on the lid of the counter box and a few superficial scratches.
The counters inside the box are extremely fine

This is an absolutely delightful item. Although
the inscription is in French, this is an English box and the counters were
undoubtedly used in game. French was very much the social language in England
in George III's time. When full, this box would probably have contained 8 to 10
counters.
