William IV silver framed spectacles in shagreen case
Pair of William IV extendable spectacles with sterling silver
frames and a silver mounted shagreen case. Because the spectacle frames were
made in a number of pieces, they are hallmarked extensively. All the marks are
very crisp with the exception of the maker's mark which is struck deeply but is
incuse and difficult to read. The spectacle arms are extendable and therefore
will fit any head. The very attractive green shagreen case has a blank
rectangular silver cartouche on the top of the lid.
Condition :-Excellent, even the shagreen
case is well preserved
Hallmarked :- London 1831
Size :- 6.2 inches (15.75
cm) long fully extended x
4.5 inches (11.43 cm) wide
These spectacles with their small oval lenses and
silver frames are extremely trendy to-day. The prescription in the lenses could
easily be changed to suit the owner.
