Stock No. 2367	Elizabeth I sterling silver seal-top spoon
	Provenance: The Biggs Collection of Early Spoons. This collection was sold by Christie's in London on September 20, 1978 and this spoon was Lot 33. The majority of seal-top spoons date from the seventeenth century and are heavier than the sixteenth century ones. This spoon is as yet unascribed, apart from the fact that it is Provincial. It could possibly be West Country. In the 1989 edition of Jackson's Silver and Gold Marks, edited by Ian Pickford, page 524 shows a photograph of the five petal mark in the bowl of this very spoon (third from bottom)

Condition :-Good condition, considering its age and is well up to collector's standard. The bowl has some signs of wear on the top left side, as would be expected if it had been used by a right-handed person. As so often happens, the hexagonal top of the finial has worn over the years, so that it is no longer so pronounced. The gilding on the finial is still very visible and is now a gentle, mellow, colour. It is not surprising that this spoon was in the Biggs Collection 2,450
