William and Mary sterling silver
clothes whisk of conical shape. A family coat of arms is engraved just above
the hallmarks and is currently being researched.
Maker :- TB, crescent below
Condition :-Excellent, with a wonderful
patina and very good hallmarks. The bristles were replaced at some stage but
this was done quite a while ago
Hallmarked :- London 1693
Size :- 6.5 inches (16.7 cm)
high
Weight :- 3.7 ozt (115.1 g)
including bristles
The maker's mark, TB with crescent below, has been
recorded on page 150 of Jackson's "English Goldsmiths and their
Marks" and on page 148 of the new Jackson but the maker has not yet been
identified. This is a lovely piece of silver. It is very difficult to find 17th
century silver hollow ware in such good condition. This whisk would originally
have been part of a toilet service.
