Sturdy early Victorian sterling silver fiddle
pattern oyster fork. Made in Exeter in 1837 by William Woodman. The tines
follow the traditional shape of oyster forks, with the outer left hand tine
being wider than the other three. The plain fiddle pattern handle is engraved
at the top with the original owner's initial G in gothic style. The maker's
mark and the full set of hallmarks are stamped on the reverse of the end of the
handle and are very clear. Maker :- William Woodman
Condition :-Extremely good condition with a
few slight and negligible marks on the tines from use. The hallmarks and the
maker's mark are very clear

Oyster forks as early as this one are very hard to
find to-day. This fork could easily be used to eat any type of shellfish with
the exception of very tiny varieties such as whelks and would make a very
amusing gift for a shellfish lover. Alternatively, this fork could also be used
as a butter fork or to serve any small objects.
