Victorian child's sterling silver three piece cutlery set in
original fitted case. The set consists of a knife, a fork and a spoon in almost
mint condition. The handles of all three pieces are decorated with the very
attractive chased vine pattern. All three pieces are by the same maker (Atkin
Brothers), the knife and fork are hallmarked Sheffield 1840 and the spoon is
hallmarked Sheffield 1841. All three pieces fit perfectly into their original
red leather case, lined with blue velvet on the base and white silk on the
lid.
Maker :- Atkin Bros.
Condition :-Excellent. The hallmarks are
good and clear and the vine pattern on the handles has excellent definition.
This set looks as though it has scarcely been used.
Hallmarked :- Sheffield 1841
Size :- Length of knife 7.8
inches (19.8 cm)
Weight :- 4.52 ozt silver
only (140.7 g)
This set would make an ideal gift for a child.
While the case shows some sign of its age, the cutlery looks virtually new in
spite of the fact that it is over 158 years old.
