The Whiplash pattern is one of the most rare eighteenth century patterns known. This pattern has, to date, only been found in salt spoons and a very limited number of teaspoons in the eighteenth century and may be roughly dated from the 1730s to the 1770s. It was usual for whiplash salt spoons of that period to be unmarked.
