George III sterling silver seal made
by Hester Bateman. Circa 1780. The seal is deeply etched with initials in
flowing script (probably IJT) executed in a decorative design on a patterned
background. The top of the base of the seal is marked on one side with the lion
passant duty mark and on the other side with Hester Bateman's maker's mark. -

Condition :-Good condition with the seal
still deep and crisp. The original gilding has mainly worn off but some traces
still remain
Circa :- 1780
Size :- 1 inch (2.5 cm) tall
x 0.8 inches (2.0 cm) long x 0.7 inches (1.8 cm) wide
Weight :- 0.27 ozt (8 g)
This is a charming small seal which has all the
elegance of Hester Bateman's workmanship. Apart from being a collector's item,
it would look very attractive worn on a thin chain or a silk cord.
