Attractive Victorian sterling silver butter spade of very good
gauge. The blade is a very gentle triangular shape and the handle has a
spiralling pattern along its length and is fashioned in a very distinctive
Victorian shape. A contemporary family crest is engraved in the cartouche at
the end of the front finial, while the corresponding cartouche on the reverse
is blank. The full set of hallmarks is stamped on the back of the blade and
they are all very legible. The only slight sign of wear is at the top of the
blade where it joins the handle and where the design is slightly rubbed through
much cleaning.
