Stock No. 2532	Victorian silver agricultural medal
Very heavy, silver, Victorian Welsh agricultural prize medal. The obverse has an animal scene in high relief of a cow lying down and a bull standing by her side in a field with a fence and oak trees in the background. On the reverse, within a laurel wreath, is engraved: "Lleyn & Eifionydd Agricultural Society. 10. Sep. 1891." Maker :- J. A. Restall

Agricultural Societies are scattered all over the British Isles and their prize medals are great fun to collect. Many of these Societies were supported by affluent farmers and could afford to give high quality medals as prizes. The scenes on the obverse as well as the types of prizes given throw an interesting light on rural Britain.
