Very elegant Royal glass toilet box with sterling
silver lid. London 1837. The body of the box is made of heavy, ribbed glass.
The pull-off lid is made of sterling silver of very generous gauge. The inside
of the lid retains the original gilding which shows hardly any wear. The
extremely crisp full hallmarks and maker's mark are stamped on the inside of
the lid. The sides of the lid are ribbed and one side is stamped with a
continental import mark. The top of the lid is plain. The centre is engraved
with a Royal crown above a monogram of two interlinked "L"s.

It is very possible that this box belonged to King
Leopold I of Belgium. This box would have a variety of uses to-day and is in
such immaculate condition that it would make a very acceptable gift.
