Very attractive Victorian, sterling silver, drum shaped pierced
mustard pot with blue glass liner. London 1864 by George Richards and Edward
Brown. The body has a band of bold beading at the top and at the base. The main
part of the body is pierced with trellis and scrollwork, with the exception of
four cartouches which are engraved with flowers. The almost flat lid is
engraved with a circle of scrolling leaves around a vacant cartouche. The full
hallmarks and the makers' mark are stamped on the rim of the base of the
mustard and are extremely crisp. The date letter, the lion passant and the
makers' mark are stamped on the inside of the lid and these marks are very good
also.

This mustard pot is a very fine example of
Victorian craftsmanship at its best. The blue glass liner sets off the design
of the pierced silver in a very pleasing way. The firm Richards & Brown
