| Fish slices with fish decoration are very sought
after but particularly so when the slice has an acorn shape. Rebeccah Emes is
presumed to be the widow of John Emes (partner to Henry Chawner) who was well
known for the elegance and quality of his work, This tradition was continued by
the firm Emes and Barnard. Everything they made was of elegant shape, high
quality and generous weight. The firm was undoubtedly one of the largest
working at that time and they had wide connections in the trade. For example,
they supplied Cattle and Barber in York with race cups and Paul Storr's
company, Rundell, Bridge and Rundell with plate. They were firm favourites with
the English community in India who only bought top quality silver of good
gauge. |
