Rare George III bronze Magistrate's medal of admission to the Courts. Circa 1815. The obverse is decorated with a wreath which is made of a branch of laurel on one side and a sheaf of green corn on the other. Within the wreath is stamped "THE MAGISTRATES MEDAL OF ADMISSION TO THE COURTS". Beneath this is stamped a pair of scales resting on a sword. The initials Y & D are stamped centrally beneath the wreath for the medalists Young and Deacon. On the reverse, there is a circle of oak leaves and acorns around the inside of the rim. At the top, inside this circle is stamped "NOT TRANSFERABLE". Beneath this, in a different hand is engraved the name of the owner of the medal "WARCOP CONSETT ESQR".

Condition :-Very fine, a few superficial digs on both sides.

This medal would originally have been housed in a circular case. Although every Magistrate must have had a medal of admission, it is rare to find one from so early in the nineteenth century and in such relatively good condition.
