The True Blue Club is believed to have been formed to voice protests at the execution of the King and Queen of France. King Louis XVI was executed on 21st January, 1793 and Queen Marie Antoinette was executed on October 16th of the same year. The beheading of the French monarch and his Queen caused enormous outrage in England and this lasted for some years.
