The firm of S. Mordan & Co was inherited as a thriving business by the sons of the first Sampson Mordan, Sampson Mordan junior and Augustus Mordan. In 1880 they were joined by Augustus Mordan's son in law Edmund George Johnson. The firm was renowned for its novelty pencils and pens in silver and gold and other patented items but was also famous for a large range of other wares in silver and gold, particularly of a novelty character. The quality of objects produced was extremely high and the firm supplied many articles to a large number of top level retailers, such as Asprey & Sons, Walter Thornhill & Co, Collingwood & Co and many others. The quality and condition of this scent bottle is so excellent that it would make an ideal gift.
