Very decorative Victorian sterling silver scent
bottle of very good gauge, with white glass liner and stopper. London 1889 by
S. Mordan & Co. The bottle is cylindrical in shape and has a hinged,
lift-off lid. In the centre of the top of the lid is an applied, plain silver
disk on which is engraved "Ethel". The base of the bottle is plain
and has the full set of hallmarks stamped on it. The whole of the body and the
lid, except for the disk, are richly embossed with birds (possibly doves or
tropical birds), flowers, leaves, scrolls and ferns on a matted ground. The
inside of the lid is silver gilt and the maker's mark, the lion passant and the
date mark are stamped on the inside of the disk.
