| Sucket forks were used for desserts and it was very usual for them not to be hallmarked. They were in use in England as well as on the continent. Sucket forks with a spoon attached to the other end of the handle were in use in England earlier than the 1600s. However, the use of these forks became much more popular in the 17th century due to the greater availability of imported sugar which led to wider choices of desserts, especially of the candied variety such as candied fruit and others. | ||
