Very decorative George III sterling silver goblet engraved as a
racing prize. London 1817. Maker either IA or JA. The bottom half of the
maker's mark has been obliterated by part of a leaf from the band of bright-cut
engraving. The rim of the goblet is reeded, as is also the side of the circular
base. There is also a band of reeding where the bowl of the goblet joins the
stem. There are five thin rings of bright-cut engraving on the base. Just
beneath the rim and the hallmarks, there is a very decorative band of bright
cut engraving about 0.11 inches (0.28cm) wide depicting leaves, flowers,
berries and acorns. On one side of the goblet, beneath this band are engraved
the entwined initials RJ. The other side of the goblet is engraved
