Striking bronze medal commemorating the victories that Britain had won during the year of 1798. Obverse:- Bust of George III facing left, cuirassed and draped, with hair tied back and wearing a medallion on the left breast. GEORGIVS III . D : M . BR . FR . ET . H . REX. Below: C.H. KUCHLER. FECIT. Reverse:- The figure of Britannia, looking right, seated among a trophy of arms. MARI VICTRIX TERRAQUE INVICTA. (Victorious on the seas, unvanquished on land). In exergue: AVITUM TRANSCENDIT / HONOREM / MDCCXCVIII (He surpassed the honour of his ancestors)

Condition :-Extremely fine except for two scratches in the field of the reverse which are not very noticeable

This medal was struck by Conrad Heinrich Kuchler for Matthew Boulton at his Soho Mint in Birmingham. Kuchler's work was invariably of an extremely high standard. The British victories in 1798 commemorated by this medal included the battle of the Nile, Port Mahon, Tory Island, the invasion of Minorca as well as several victories in Ireland.
