Very elegant George III sterling silver helmet- shaped milk jug
on oval foot with bright cut engraving and of good gauge. London 1789. By
Robert Hennell I. The plain body has three bands of bright cut engraving
beneath the reeded rim and these bands also decorate the oval foot which also
has a reeded rim. On the side of the jug opposite the handle is an oval
cartouche of bright cut engraving, topped by a ribbon bow. The centre of the
cartouche is engraved with a family crest of a boar's head. The very crisp
hallmarks are stamped on the inside of the oval foot and have been very well
protected by the foot's rim. The inside of the jug has contemporary gilding and
the maximum capacity of the jug is 7 imperial oz

As could be expected, this jug is of extremely
good quality. Robert Hennell I was the fifth child of David Hennell I who
launched the dynasty of excellent Hennell silversmiths which carried on from
1735 into the twentieth century.
