Attractive George III sterling silver urn shaped pepper on a
stepped pedestal foot with a dome shaped, pierced cover. Newcastle circa 1810,
by George Murray. The pepper has a perfectly plain body, with a four-reeded
band attached to the base of the pull-off cover. Very clear hallmarks are
struck on the inside of the base of the circular foot. These consist of the
maker's mark, the lion passant, the town mark of three castles, the leopard's
head crowned and the Georgian head duty mark but the date letter has been
omitted. The inside of the base of the cover is struck with the maker's mark,
the lion passant and the Georgian head. These marks are slightly rubbed but
very readable. |
