Very attractive 18th century silver looped medal presented to the subscribers of the Masonic Grand Lodge in 1780. This medal was given to Milborne West Esq. Obverse: Winged female angel in Roman toga, standing on chequered floor, holding a long horn and an architectural drawing in the left hand and writing with the right hand on a Doric column: IN/ HONOUR/ OF THE/ SUBSCRI. Sun-like beams from above. In the background on left, a ladder leaning against scaffolding. In exergue: MDCCLXXX (1780). Reverse: Stamped round the edge: GRAND LODGE OF FREE MASONS IN ENGLAND. Stamped in centre: TO/ MILBORNE WEST ESQR. (engraved)/ IN GRATEFUL/ TESTIMONY/ OF A LIBERAL/ SUBSCRIPTION/ TOWARDS/ COMPLEATING/ THEIR HALL.
