The wolf was frequently used to represent rebellion. This medal was struck in December 1745 after the Battle of Carlisle and the obverse illustrates the English Lion laying prostrate the Wolf. The legend on the obverse is a retort to Prince Charles who had inscribed his standard with TANDEM TRIUMPHANS upon his landing. The obverse of this medal was also used for the metallic tickets struck for the Duke of Cumberland's theatre and inscribed on the reverse: Box, Gallery etc.
