The end of the handle in engraved with the following contemporary inscription:- Jany. 11th 1848./ Presented to Bro John Wright P.M. by the Breth" of the Lodge of United Strength No.276 as/ a mark of their respect for his untiring persever/ance for the benefit of this Lodge and the cause/ of Freemasonry. The full set of hallmarks, as well as the maker's mark are stamped on the end of the reverse of the handle and are very crisp and clear.

This serving spoon is in such excellent condition that it would seem that it has scarcely been used and has been set aside as a treasure. To-day, it would make a very impressive gift and the inscription would be a conversation piece at any table.
