Click here for a larger image Victorian silver plate beaker with straight, slightly flaring, sides engraved as a rowing prize for the Trinity Boat Club, Trinity College, Cambridge. 10 December 1850. The inside of the beaker is gilt. The beaker is engraved with the Club's insignia of three crowns, one above the other two, and beneath a lion passant guardant. Beneath the insignia is engraved: T B C / Four Oar'd Races/ 1. H.K. Boldero 3. C. Waymouth / 2. W.M. Fenn 4. H. Brandt / Cox: A. G. More. / 10 DEC 1850. Surrounding the wording is a wreath of bulrushes and spreading tendrils of flowering wild convolvulus which intertwine very attractively at the back of the beaker.
Condition :-Very good indeed. The yellow from the metal beneath has been skilfully allowed to shine through on the three crowns and the shading on the lion and on the lettering as well as on the more heavily engraved parts of the decoration. The gilding inside the beaker has worn a little over the years.
Circa :- 1850
Size :- 4.24 inches (10.8 cm) high x 3.25 inches (8.3 cm) diameter of rim

This beaker would not only make a very interesting drinking vessel but would be equally attractive as a vase for flowers.
