Click here for a larger image Royal steel book binding seal belonging to George IV when he was Prince of Wales, with replacement wooden handle. Circa 1800. The design on the circular seal consists of the three Prince of Wales feathers within a coronet with the capital letters G and P on either side. Beneath, within a ribbon, is the Prince of Wales's motto "ICH DIEN". The circular wooden handle fits into the seal's steel collar and flares outwards with a slightly domed end in order to give a comfortable grip. The cut in the steel collar was probably made when the replacement handle was fitted.
