Beautifully and delicately engraved silver "In Memorium" medal for a beloved soldier who died in the Napoleonic War. 24 April, 1812. Unmarked. Obverse:- A plaque inscribed M F in script, April 24th 1812. Britannia stands beside the plaque on arid ground with her spear in the right hand and her shield beside her. In the background is a palm tree and some bushes. Above the plaque, a winged cherub holding a lyre. The medal is pierced so that it can be worn and a sunburst decorates the circumference of the hole. Reverse:- The Lord's Prayer engraved in a delicate script and ending with "And deliver us from evil. Amen". The whole surrounded by a delicately engraved wreath.
