| Condition :-Good condition with a wonderful
patina. The crispness of the engraving has softened gently but the hallmarks
are good and clear, although the details of Hibernia have flattened. The silver
flaked slightly in two places on the inside of the bowl during manufacture and
has not been smoothed out. However, this is quite acceptable and adds to the
object's charm |

| It is difficult to specify what exact purpose this
bowl on foot was put to in Ireland in 1792. It may have been used as a sugar
bowl or it may have been used for different purposes. Certainly, to-day, this
bowl would have a variety of uses. To mention just a few, it would make an
ideal receptacle for whipped cream, cherries or grapes, bon bons or biscuits,
any thick sauce or ice when serving drinks |
