Bronze medal for the abolition of the slave trade by Great Britain in 1807. By G F Pidgeon and J Phillp. This medal was struck in circa 1814. Obverse: A white man and a negro face each other shaking hands. Beyond on right, five negroes dance around a tree while two more till the fields. Far left, four native huts with palm trees. Hills behind. Legend above: WE ARE ALL BRETHREN. Exergue: SLAVE TRADE ABOLISHED/BY GREAT BRITAIN/1807. Beneath, medallist's initials GFP. Reverse: Arabic inscription which translates: Sale of slaves prohibited in 1807, Christian era, in the reign of George the Third; verily, we are all brothers. Beneath, medallist's initials for J Phillp.
