| England, as an eagle, ejects the son of James II for his imputed intrusion and retains the Princesses Mary and Anne, so vindicating the rights of the kingdom by preserving the succession in the true line. In 1885, Medallic Illustrations rated this medal as rare and it is hardly ever seen to-day. The workmanship of Jan Smeltzing's medals was highly esteemed. He worked in Leyden from about 1684. However, in 1690 he was compelled to seek temporary refuge in France due to certain satirical medals he had made and found employment with the Mint in Paris. | ||
