Very striking Victorian silver gilt Clan Badge. Maker's mark only - GE&S, for George Edward & Son, Glasgow circa 1880. The front of the badge has the cut out Farquharson crest of a demi-lion rampant, holding a sword or dagger in the right paw, surrounded by a belt and buckle which is the symbol of a clansman. Applied to the belt is the Farquharson motto FIDE ET FORTITUDINE (By Fidelity and Fortitude). The reverse of the badge is plain with a sturdy horizontal pin secured by a hook. There is also a suspension ring at the top of the badge. There is some scratching near the hook where clumsy attempts were made to close the badge.
