The Worshipful Company of Carpenters ranks twenty-sixth in the order of precedence of the Livery Companies of the City of London. A Master Carpenter is mentioned in the City of London records in 1271. The Company received a Royal Charter of incorporation in 1477 from King Edward IV. To-day, the Company no longer has a role as a trade association of tradesmen and craftsmen. It now acts as a charitable institution and supports education in wood-related fields.
