Elegant William IV stirling silver meat skewer of plain form. The finial is a plain ring above incurving shoulders which bear a crest of two greyhounds' heads addorsed and erased for Atkins.

Condition :-Some surface scratches from use over the years but otherwise very good. Duty mark slightly rubbed in bottom left-hand corner but otherwise the hallmarks are very clear.

Skewers usually came in sized sets but even pairs are difficult to find now. The finials come in numerous designs, which makes them very collectable and they are most often in ring form in order to facilitate the skewer's withdrawal from a joint of meat. By 1790, skewers had become more sharp-edged and these are now widely used as
paper knives. No elegant writing table or desk should be without one.
