On the reverse of this very attractive medalet, Britain is symbolized by a sleeping lion. The quiescence of the lion is supposed to allude to the peaceful state of the country after the Peace of Breda. Philip Roettier was the youngest brother of John Roettier. Like him, he came to England at the Restoration and was engaged at the Mint. In 1678, he left England and was placed at the head of the coinage for Flanders.
