George III sterling silver Onslow pattern soup ladle, with
fluted bowl and cast, scroll end to the handle. The very crisp hallmarks are
stamped at the base of the handle, which is joined to the fluted bowl with a
decorative double drop. Excellent patina. Maker :- George Baskerville
Condition :-Extremely good. A few
superficial small scratches on the handle. The hallmarks are struck at the base
of the handle by the bowl and are excellent.

This pattern was originally produced from about
1760. It is now very rare. Genuine examples, which should have a scarf join,
are hard to find and are mostly serving pieces. The Onslow pattern is such a
festive design that this spoon lends itself well to being given as a gift.
Also, it could easily be used as a punch or fruit salad ladle or for any soft
puddings.
