Click here for a larger image Very attractive George III miniature saw. Circa 1790. The handle is very beautifully cut out of ivory and attached to the blade by two pins. The extremely realistic blade is gilt on metal and is decorated with extremely fine bright-cut engraving in the form of a line of scrolls which, in the front, ends in a sunburst cartouche near the handle enclosing decoratively engraved initials G K. The same line of scrolls is engraved on the back of the blade and runs all the way along.
 
Condition :-Very good with the gilding virtually intact. A few cracks in the handle on either side of one of the pins where it was applied to tightly

Toy and miniature tools were very popular with the adult gentry in the eighteenth century. Their toy houses were equipped to a very high degree and they loved to play at being shepherds and shepherdesses and milkmaids and artisans.
