| Condition :-Very good. Slight bruising in bowl and silver part of handle, due to age and use. The wooden handle is in very good condition and the silver is of very heavy gauge. The full hallmarks inside the centre of the bowl are very clear, except for the G of the maker's mark which is worn and was probably mis-struck. |

| This is a pleasing piece and rare in being so early. By 1740, the circular or ovoid bowl gave way to a variety of shaped bowls. By 1760, the twisted, whalebone, handle became usual, while the bowls became smaller and thinner and were often only partly marked or even unmarked. Punch bowls make very popular presents. |
