The hook at the end of the handle was quite often
used in Irish silver serving pieces in the second half of the 18th century and
was there simply so that the piece could be hung up. This soup ladle is of
excellent quality, very heavy gauge and extremely good condition. It is one of
the best examples of Irish silver and its graceful, flowing design is redolent
of Ireland in the 1760s.
