The 1892 edition of Fairbairn's Book of Crests attributes the crest on this brooch to Edward Rodger Esquire, of Clairmont Gardens, Glasgow. These brooches were worn by the Scots to keep their plaids in place on their shoulders. To-day, this brooch would make a very attractive pin to hold a lady's throw or woollen scarf in place.
