Sugar spoons are often also called preserve spoons. Their use is extremely versatile as they are ideal for serving any thick sauce or relish which is only needed in small quantities, such as, for example, horseradish sauce or mayonnaise, cranberry jelly and other jellies, chutneys, etc. George Adams married Mary Chawner and was part of the Chawner dynasty of silversmiths working in the 19th century. He was one of the most prolific makers of flatware in the mid-Victorian period and his silver was invariably of a very high standard.
