Set of six sterling silver George III Hanoverian
pattern dessert spoons. All the six spoons have the same family crest with
motto above engraved at the end of the back of the stem. The crest of a right
hand held erect and holding a club, with the motto of "FRAPPE FORTE"
above is that of Wodehouse. Even though one of the dessert spoons is by a
different maker from the other five, this is not at all noticeable. It is
probable that more spoons were needed and were made up to match by the other
maker. The pronounced drop at the bowl end of the six stems is
indistinguishable and the family crest at the end of each stem has obviously
been engraved by the same hand.
Maker :- 5 - Isaac Callard, 1 - Thomas & Wm.
Chawner
Condition :-Very good condition and
pleasing patina. The bowls are well shaped and not worn. The hallmarks are
quite good in spite of the narrowness of the stem. However, the date mark on
one of the Isaac Callard spoons and on the T & W Chawner spoon is too worn
away to be legible.
Hallmarked :- London 1768
.
Size :- 6.6 inches long
(16.76cm)
Weight :- 7.28 ozt (226.4g)
Hanoverian dessert spoons are much more difficult
to find than tablespoons. Isaac Callard and the Chawner brothers were
spoonmakers of high repute.
